As I stood on stage holding my sister Devan's hand after the runners-up were called and Olivia was crowned Miss Cape Resort, Devan turned to me and asked if I was ready to be crowned. As I was responding to her asking her if she actually thought it was going to happen, I heard, "And Miss Cape May County 2013 is contestant #10 Lauren Fogarty."
As someone who always went to pageants and admired the young women in them, I never competed in any Miss America Organization pageants before. Because I am 23 years old, this was my last year to compete. I realized that if I never went for it then it would be something I would always regret. So my sister and I decided to go for it and I couldn't be happier that we did.
My sister did a wonderful job. I am so happy that I was able to be with her when I was crowned. It made being crowned Miss Cape May County that much better.
I am proud and honored to be representing Cape May County in Miss New Jersey in June 2013 and I look forward to a fun and successful year!
